Dogs in Sweden

Some important informations about your stay in Sweden:

The rules on bringing dogs and cats to Sweden from abroad were simplified the 3rd of July 2004, when so called pet passports were introduced.
However, there are still many things to consider before you decide to bring your animal to Sweden.

* The journey may be hot and stressful to your animal.
* It may take time before the passport is ready - up to five months if the animal does not have a valid rabies vaccination when you begin the process.
* You will have to see a veterinarian in order to obtain the pet passport, get your animal identified and vaccinated, and get some advice concerning the trip.
* A veterinarian shall deworm your animal against tapeworm (Echinococcus)1-10 days before you bring it to Sweden.
* At the border you must choose the "goods to declare" gate and inform the customs officials that you bring a dog or a cat.
* In addition to these rules, you need to know the rules for bringing your animal back home again. For such information, please contact the veterinary authority of your country.
* You no longer need an import permit for dogs or cats from EU Member States or from listed countries.

Dogs on the leash...

Between March and September dogs are not allowed to be unleashed. If you have a really good control over your dog the Sweds don't take that rule to literally..

Always check with the Swedish Board of Agriculture, just in case our info is outdated.
